Yumeo CD-9 — CD Skip / Error Concealment

Yumeo CD-9 · compact disc player · restored from unit no. C-3090622 · Yumeo, Japan, 1988

The restorer's note

A failing disc, held at the moment it gives up — the interpolation, the brief digital silences, the stutter. The concealment logic is the real subject; a random glitcher only imitates it. Restored, fittingly, from a much-loved and much-scratched machine.

Listening

Listening

Demonstration recordings, prepared at the bench.

  1. Light wear, plainly

The mix runs dry, then on the player at Severity 25 % — the occasional held sample, a short mute, a disc that mostly still plays.

    0:00 / 0:30

  2. The escalation

Severity climbs from nought to full: the player passes, then interpolates, then mutes, then repeats what it has — the concealment order, in order.

    0:00 / 0:30

  3. Forced skips

Trigger forces the skip on demand. Stutter stretches from 60 to 300 ms, Seek hunts at 80 %, Mute sits at 70 % — and Sync then locks the stutter to the beat.
